At the collection center of the Association for a Better Future, a different day was experienced. This time DHL volunteers they shared a morning of work with basic waste pickers and recyclers, with whom they learned first-hand how the inclusive recycling chain works.
This initiative was part of the EcoOctober Challenge, an effort by the DHL GoGreen Committee that seeks to involve its team in actions that promote greener and more responsible logistics. GoGreen is the global sustainability program of the Deutsche Post DHL Group and has the ambitious goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. To move towards that goal, it promotes alliances, community activities and experiences that connect people to the reality of recycling systems.

During the day, volunteers helped with tasks of separating, weighing and organizing recyclable materials. What seemed like a simple practical activity became a learning experience about the value of effort, perseverance and commitment that this work requires.
The meeting made it possible to make visible the work of those who support recycling in Ecuador. Volunteers discovered that behind every recovered bottle, carton or container there is a complex process that includes transportation, sorting and marketing. They understood that recycling doesn't start at collection centers, but when people separate their waste properly.
This experience also left a collective reflection. Inclusive recycling is a shared task. Every person, company or institution can contribute to strengthening the system. DHL, through its volunteering, took an important step in recognizing the work of grassroots waste pickers and joining the change through action.
Experiences like this show that when companies are directly involved, the impact multiplies. At ReciVeci, we invite more organizations to join volunteer initiatives and to implement inclusive recycling systems through ReciCorp® to promote real changes and transform waste management into opportunities for those who support recycling in the country.
