The previous Saturday, December 13, at ReciVeci®, we left the work routine for a moment to share a Christmas treat with basic waste pickers and their families. It was a space to celebrate, thank and close the year in community, recognizing those who support recycling in Ecuador every day.

During the day, Christmas baskets were delivered and a clothing and toy stand was set up for girls and boys, thanks to the support of our friends from Usa Reusa. Between games, prizes, laughter and conversations, the meeting became a collective respite after a year of constant effort.

For ReciVeci®, the Just Ton it's not just about separate materials or tons recovered. It's an approach that puts people at the center and recognizes basic recycling as an essential service. Throughout this year, together with Latitud R, we have worked to build a Just Ton that means better working conditions, recognition, security, spaces for care and a more dignified relationship with communities. This treat is also part of that journey.

“For ReciVeci, people are at the center of our work. We dream of a system where basic recycling is recognized as an essential service, with fair compensation, access to social security, guaranteed rights and real opportunities for growth. In 2026, we will launch the Recycler's Profile in ReciApp, a tool created to accompany and make their work visible, where each collection and each participation will add ReciPoints that can be exchanged for prizes,” said Claudia, Operations and Projects manager at ReciVeci®.

For her part, Angelita Guachamín, a basic recycler from the Lomas de Monteserrín neighborhood, shared her experience after joining ReciVecindad's recycling stations.

“We used to pick up on the sidewalk, among mixed and unprotected garbage. Now the material arrives separately and I can work with more peace of mind. In addition, in the neighborhood they already recognize me and that makes me feel valued,” she said.

Angelita also highlighted the importance of having protective equipment and safe spaces to collect, and invited her colleagues to continue betting on this system that improves working conditions and relationships with the community.

At ReciVeci, we thank every customer, partner and organization that makes these spaces possible. Because a Fair Ton is also this. Recognize each other, take care of each other and continue to dream together and together of a more dignified future.

Happy holidays, neighbors.
